To Sleep Or Not To Sleep?

The obvious answer is YES to sleep. Most adults need at least 7 hours of sleep a day. Seems reasonable right?

And still, according to the National Institutes of Health, 7% to 19% of adults reportedly do not get enough sleep, 40% reportedly fall asleep during the day at least once a month, and 50 to 70 million Americans have chronic sleep disorders. Furthermore, some people find sleep a waste of time so they don't sleep.

I remember as a kid, I never wanted to sleep. I just wanted to stay up and play sports all day and video games all night. Faster forward 30 years later, I find that I just can’t get enough sleep. I wake up every morning and I ask God, “just 5 more minutes!” But, it never happens because I need to drag my buttocks off the bed to take care and get the kids ready for the day.

Now I know why my parents always told us to go to bed early as a child. It wasn’t necessarily for my own benefit, it was actually for theirs. After having children, I was just too shortsighted to see how precious sleep can be. It’s a luxury and I would trade almost anything for it. Every opportunity I can catch some ZzZ, I do it or otherwise, I get cranky as if a bomb has exploded. And nobody wants to see that.

Have you ever noticed the difference in how you are during the day when you do get some sleep and when you don’t get enough sleep?

That’s because of sleep deprivation, which is a real thing and can affect mental health. When your psychological state is poor, your body is too tired and not in the best mental and physical shape, which may lead to poor judgment and undesirable conflict with your friends, family, and spouse.

From this cycle, we can see what we do at night affects our day. But what we do during the day will also affect our night. It's good that my wife knows how everything is connected and how important we need rest. That’s why we make sure the kids eat well, follow through on their routines and go to bed on time. Most importantly, while we all get ready to go to bed to get better sleep, we play this track like medicine.

As Dalai Lama once said, ”Sleep is the best medicine”. Maybe he is right, maybe he is not, only God knows. But I do know this, better get some sleep while you can.

Listen to our newest track at night, promise your day will be that much better!
